  3. CephX Receives First Patent for Automated Cephalometric Analysis Using Machine Learning That Could Save Precious Time and Conform a Base Line in the Field of Orthodontics

CephX announced today that the United States Patent and Trademark Office granted CephX their first patent, which automates cephalometric tracing process and enables immediate analysis using machine learning and AI technology. The issuance of this patent is a major and considerable leap to the entire dental orthodontic industry.

Cephalometric analysis is commonly used by dentists and orthodontists to study skeletal relationships in the craniofacial complex during patients’ orthodontic pre-treatment process. Cephalometric analyses can also be used to evaluate a patient’s dentofacial proportions, and help dentists recognize abnormalities, predict future changes, and assess the success of ongoing treatment plans.

CephX’s ground-breaking solution was developed by the company and can produce full and high accuracy cephalometric analysis. It came as an answer to the orthodontic industry, as the annotation of the dozens of landmarks of interest on cephalometric radiograph images is time-consuming.

This patented technology automatically detects anatomical landmarks on a cephalometric x-ray image, incorporates this method in a real-time system and process for generating cephalometric analyses. The outcome is a full and precise cephalometric analysis within merely 3 seconds, and includes a convenient access to an online cloud-based service which may be used from any mobile or desktop device.

“Our first patent is an important step in our evolving portfolio of patented dental algorithms that are capable of changing the way dentistry will be diagnosed and executed,” said Daniel Abraham, Founder and President of CephX. “We are confident that CephX’s expanding intellectual property estate, including this newly issued patent, will make a change in the effectiveness and success associated with orthodontic treatment. This is particularly important as our vision is a world where dental diagnostics, visual treatment suggestions and pathology findings are immediately and seamlessly performed.”

“We’re excited that our hard work continues to receive validation with the granting of this latest patent, and we look forward to continuing adding new solutions that could serve dental practitioners worldwide,” Abraham added.

CephX has partnered with the leading dental imaging manufacturers and top market players across the entire dental value chain, including Dentsply Sirona, Cefla and Planmeca.
